How ground transport is displayed
Between each pair of stops in the itinerary, Smart Planner shows a transport section. This section indicates how the traveler gets from one destination to the next. Depending on what's configured and available, it may show:
A pre-selected transfer (e.g., airport shuttle, private transfer)
A rental car assignment
A placeholder prompting the user to search for transport options
Ground Transport Drawer
When users click on the transport section or a prompt to search, the Ground Transport Drawer opens. This side panel allows users to browse and select from available transport options for that leg of the journey.
The drawer presents options organized by type:
Transport type | Description |
Private transfer | Door-to-door service between accommodations and/or airports |
Shared shuttle | Scheduled group transport along fixed routes |
Trains | Coming soon |
Ferries | Coming soon |
Each option shows:
Provider name
Vehicle type or category
Price (per person or per vehicle, depending on the product)
Duration estimate
Selecting a transport option updates the itinerary and recalculates the trip price.
Transfers
Transfers are point-to-point transport services, typically between airports and hotels or between two hotels. In Smart Planner:
If a template includes pre-configured transfers, they appear automatically in the transport section.
Users can change transfers by opening the Ground Transport Drawer and selecting an alternative (when they are not set as fixed)
Both private transfers and shared shuttles are available depending on supplier inventory.
Rental cars
Rental cars are shown when car hire is available for a leg of the journey. In Smart Planner:
The rental car card shows the vehicle category, provider, and price.
For multi-stop itineraries, rental cars can span multiple stops. A dropdown selector on the rental car card lets users choose which stops the rental covers (e.g., "Pick up at Stop 1, drop off at Stop 3").
Users can change the rental car category or provider via the Ground Transport Drawer.
The multi-stop rental car UX uses a dropdown to clearly indicate pick-up and drop-off locations, making it easy to manage rentals that cover several destinations.
Booking ground transport
When the user selects a ground transport option:
The option is added to the itinerary at the relevant leg.
The trip price updates to include the transport cost.
The transport section between stops changes from a placeholder to a confirmed selection showing provider and pricing details.
Users can change their selection at any time by clicking on the transport section again to re-open the drawer.
For administrators
Ground transport in Smart Planner uses the same supplier integrations configured in your TripBuilder instance:
Transfer suppliers — ensure your transfer providers are active and returning availability for the relevant routes.
Rental car suppliers — confirm that your car hire integrations are configured for the relevant destinations.
Template configuration — if your templates include pre-selected transfers, verify these are set up correctly so they display as defaults in Smart Planner.
No additional Smart Planner-specific settings are required for ground transport.
