Transport Types in Route Builder and Planner

Written by Product Management

Overview

When defining a route for an itinerary, TripBuilder allows you to specify the means of transportation for connecting two consecutive stops. Depending on how you define the route, different products (e.g., rental cars, transfers, or flights) may be required for the itinerary. These products will have distinct icons and calculations (e.g., distance between stops or travel time). Transport type selections and route changes can affect how TripBuilder calculates dates and times for subsequent stops and transit legs. In multi-stop routes, itinerary legs appear in the same chronological order as the Route Builder sequence.

TripBuilder offers a maximum of fourteen transport types.

Transport Types Selection

When creating new stops in the itinerary using Route Builder, the default transport type set in the Distribution Channel configuration will be used. In the example, the default is "Shuttle Ride".

Note: When you change the transport type between two stops, TripBuilder recalculates the affected connection and downstream route dates after the route is updated. For scheduled services, such as boat rides or shuttles, start times and exact durations help place the transfer in the correct itinerary sequence.
