Template type | Supported | Notes |
Multi-stop templates | Yes | The primary template type for Smart Planner. Each stop displays its hotel, activities, and transport. |
Multi-day flex templates | Yes | Flexible itineraries where the number of nights per stop can vary. |
Transit Activity Based Templates | Yes | Templates that contain a transit activity. |
Templates with multiple modules | Yes | Could be inventory or resold modules |
Pre and post programs | No | Smart Planner does currently not support pre and post program selection |
Group tours | No | You should use the legacy planner for now. |
How to enable a template for Smart Planner
Open the template in the Template Editor.
Locate the Smart Planner compatibility setting under the "Miscelaneous" tab.
Set it to Enabled or Default depending on your need.
Once a template is marked as Enabled and the DC-level Smart Planner setting is also active (see How to Activate Smart Planner), the template will open in Smart Planner when a user selects it from Discovery.
If you set a template to Disabled (Legacy only), it will always open in the Legacy Planner regardless of DC settings.
Template behavior in Smart Planner
When a template opens in Smart Planner, the itinerary is displayed as a vertical timeline with one card per product.
Smart Planner Compatible Templates Only mode
In Settings → DC → Discovery → Smart Planner, there is a setting called Smart Planner Compatible Templates Only. When enabled:
The Discovery page only displays templates marked as Smart Planner Enabled.
Templates marked as Legacy only or Disabled are hidden from the user.
This is recommended for B2C channels where you want a fully curated Smart Planner experience.
When disabled, all templates appear in Discovery. Smart Planner-enabled templates open in Smart Planner; Legacy-only templates open in Legacy Planner.
UI switch: Smart Planner ↔ Legacy Planner
For B2B users with Expert Mode available, there is a toggle in the planner toolbar that allows switching between Smart Planner and Legacy Planner for the current itinerary. This is useful when a travel agent starts in Smart Planner but needs to access advanced features only available in the Legacy Planner.
The switch is available when:
The DC has Smart Planner enabled.
The template is marked as Enabled or Default (not Legacy only).
The entry point supports toggling (templates, Design your Route, Start with Flights).
The switch is not available for:
B2C channels (consumers always see whichever planner the DC and template dictate).
Tips for template migration
When migrating existing templates to Smart Planner:
Test each template in Smart Planner before marking it as Enabled. Verify that hotels, flights, activities, and transfers display correctly.
Check all stops — ensure each stop has valid hotel and transport configurations.
Start with your most popular templates and expand gradually.
