Feature in development

Feature in private beta release phase. A feature flag will need to be enabled to ensure we direct to smart planner instead of route builder and the original planner. Please contact your customer service team to discuss enabling this feature.

While our super flexible itinerary management via route builder and planner features are vital for some customers, we wanted to design a travel planner experience that better supports online booking (B2C) and simpler agent planning offering.

If our customers and their users are not creating itineraries from scratch and instead booking simple packages, the planner can for some scenarios feel like a time-consuming step in the booking process.

Therefore a simpler booking experience via the new smart planner that still has some itinerary adjustment capabilities will better serve the online market and certain travel agencies to convert those simpler bookings more efficiently, increase basket size and drive higher revenue.

Smart planner initially will focus on simple packages, where hotels and flights are selected to create an itinerary. This could be using our internal Multi-Centre page, or could be using dynamic packaging tools such as Freshcells Dynamic Packaging or others.

Feature has also been built on our external Planner API meaning our customers could use the Planner API to build their own UI if required.

For more information about our simple packages and the options that could be used to direct into the smart planner, please check with our product team.

Theme Settings

We've introduced comprehensive customisation and hotel discovery capabilities for Smart Planner, transforming it into a fully branded, intelligent booking platform. These enhancements provide complete visual control over your travel experience while streamlining hotel selection through advanced recommendation and search features.

Smart Planner now supports theming including custom brand colors (primary and secondary), typography integration with Google Fonts or hosted fonts, and border styling options (rounded or squared).

The system includes intelligent accessibility features like automatic contrast checking to ensure optimal readability regardless of colour choices. All customizations are managed through Distribution Channel settings.

Discovery and access to Smart Planner

Below is an example of TripBuilder's own Multi-Centre Page for simple flight and hotel packages.

Smart Planner replacing route builder and planner

After selecting 'Create Multi-Center Package' the redirect, when correctly configured, will take you to the Smart Planner page instead of the route-builder and regular planner flow.

The heading displays a picture and the summary of the itinerary, including an option to book taking a user into their checkout flow of choice.

Below the heading, a summary of the services chosen is displayed.

Each service has a card that can be expanded or minimised to show more or less content. Below is a flight where there is more detailed information if it is has a stop en route.

For hotels there is a map view of the hotel location.

Services that are supported as part of smart planner's V1 are:

  • Hotels

  • Flights

  • Transfers (Coming soon)

  • Activities (Coming soon)

  • Rental Cars (Coming soon)

Adjustments

If an agent or consumer wants to make adjustments to the itinerary before going into checkout, that is possible from smart planner, but with a less extensive feature set that the planner offers.

It is possible to re-enter the planner offer pages from the service cards by clicking on, for example, 'change hotel', 'change flight' or 'view room options' where the planner offer pages will be opened. From here a user can remove or exchange a service, or change room categories, then after the selection be redirected back to the smart planner page.

Services that can be adjusted as part of smart planner's V1 are:

  • Hotels

  • Flights

  • Transfers

  • Activities - coming soon!

  • Rental Cars

Once back to smart planner, the price, if it has been altered, will be updated ready to go ahead and make a booking.

If a flight or a hotel hadn't been selected in the creation of the itinerary, then a placeholder card will be display allowing a user to then select the hotel or flight from smart planner if required.

Hotel Search Recommendations and Drawer

Intelligent Hotel Recommendations display up to three curated hotel tiles with essential booking information, enabling one-click selection directly within Smart Planner. These recommendations leverage our global hotel configuration system to surface the most relevant properties based on destination and travel preferences.

Advanced Hotel Search Drawer The new interactive hotel drawer provides access to up to 20 hotels. The drawer maintains full mobile responsiveness.

Checkout

When the user clicks 'book for EUR 882' they will be directed to checkout to confirm their travel plans.

Known limitations

  • Smart Planner's V1 principally aims to support the booking of simple packages

  • Doesn't yet support date changes

  • Doesn't yet support documentation download/printing

  • Doesn't support the addition of adhoc components or service fees.

  • Doesn't yet allow the user to add or remove stops to the itinerary.

  • Has no link back to route builder or planner - it replaces these features in the booking funnel.

  • Doesn't yet support post booking changes or adjustments - these would be done by the Agent or Customer Care user in the same way as status quo.

  • Doesn't yet support a re-check of availability as exists in planner, this can be done in the checkout.
