Overview

The Source Market functionality in TripBuilder, when supported by suppliers, provides access to differentiated rates and booking conditions by geography. Depending on the positioning of the travel brand, for example brands in the sun and beach segment, this can be a critical business requirement.

Understanding Source Market

In the travel industry, a Source Market refers to a geographical area, typically a country, from which many travellers originate. It is the market that supplies tourists to a particular destination, be it a city, country, resort, or other tourist attraction. For example, the UK is a key source market for Spain due to the large number of tourists travelling from the UK to Spain each year.

Usage in TripBuilder

TripBuilder incorporates Source Market functionality in three main scenarios:

Contractual/Supplier Configuration

When a supply contract is established between a travel brand and a supplier, the Source Market can be defined and integrated directly into the supplier's configuration. This allows a specific source market to be applied to all API requests from a TripBuilder instance or Distribution Channel. In these cases, any existing source market configuration remains entirely transparent for TripBuilder.

Residency Requirements from Travellers

Certain suppliers, such as rental car providers like Carnect, require the driver's country of residence to be specified before offering rental car options. The driver's country of residence can affect the availability of vehicle types, terms, and pricing.

Agency Branch location

For accommodation searches facilitated through the TravelGateX switch, Source Market definitions can be applied seamlessly for the user, provided accommodation suppliers and bed banks support them. For instance, the bed bank Hotelbeds uses a content and rate strategy based on the Source Market.

The Source Market is automatically determined based on the country where the agency branch associated with the searching agent is located. If the country is not defined at the agency level, TripBuilder defaults to using the country code configured for the Distribution Channel.
